HELPFUL TIP: PRUNE ROSES

It's time for some tough love for your roses:

  • Remove all branches (especially twiggy growth) except for 5-10 of the main canes
  • Reduce remaining, main canes to approx. 15"
  • Remove dead canes
  • Remove crossing branches
  • Strip leaves from remaining canes
  • Make all cuts about 1/4" above a bud-eye that is facing out from the center of the bush
  • Some recommend sealing the fresh pruning cuts with Elmer’s glue to prevent entry by pests and pathogens
