HELPFUL TIP: PRUNE ROSES
It's time for some tough love for your roses:
- Remove all branches (especially twiggy growth) except for 5-10 of the main canes
- Reduce remaining, main canes to approx. 15"
- Remove dead canes
- Remove crossing branches
- Strip leaves from remaining canes
- Make all cuts about 1/4" above a bud-eye that is facing out from the center of the bush
- Some recommend sealing the fresh pruning cuts with Elmer’s glue to prevent entry by pests and pathogens
